Hi. no batteries as far as I know. YOu need power to run the mini. I use a blue tooth keyboard, I did use a usb keyboard to turn voice over on though. it might be handy to get a cheap usb keyboard until you get your bluetooth keyboard paired. As I've said in previous posts it does have a speaker and it's not too bad. I have the trackpad sitting on top of the mini which saves a bit of space. I hope I've answered all your questions.
