Got it working now, perhaps I didn't press the fn key hard enough, difficulties 
pressing many keys!

  Yes.  Vo+F1.  If you do it twice in a row, you'll land in the app chooser 
menu of all your currently running applications.

  Mind you, if vo+F1 doesn't work, then try fn+vo+F1.
