I would use a different app. I love Pepperplate, because it is a website as well as an app. I can add recipes on the website, where it's easier to type anyway, then they sync to the iOS app when I open it. It has other features, like a shopping list and menu planner, but I don't use those. I made an entry on applevis.com for it if you want to look it up; it explains the accessibility problems with the app, which mostly have to do with editing recipes - you can view them just fine. As I said, though, it syncs with your web-based account, so you can edit recipes online and the changes will be pushed to your device next time the app is opened with a web connection present.
