The nls app is still not out, and the developers are silent; you did not
miss the launch. I have not heard of the second project you talked about,
though it does sound intriguing. Sorry I can't be of more help.

OK, two questions.
First of all, does anyone currently know the status on the app that was
going to be created for downloading and listenning to NLS books from the
Bard web site on an I O S device? I know there was a butt load of talk
regarding this, and they said it would probably be first quarter of this
year, but I've heard nothing more.
The second question is, there was a p0roject which I heard about from a
local NFB state convention which basically outlined a project called
Borrowed Sight. Apparently, what it's supposed to do is allow an IPhone 5
user to take their phone and log into the app, then in real time with a
human, be able to converse and they will tell you of your surroundings. I
don't mean like, there is a step/curb coming up. This isn't meant as a
substitute for good cane/guide dog O&M travel, so dont' get that idea.
Theyt're not there to protect you from getting lost/hurt/killed. They
would basically just say things like Hi Chris. You're now at Southpark
Mall. On your left is the food court. Over to your right is the exit to
JC Penny. Straight ahead is Dillards, and just off to your immediate back
is the public restrooms. As you walk in JC Penny, they'd then tell you
things like, OK chris, on your left is the perfume. On the right is a
jewlry counter. Straight ahead is a billibard sign that reads Marykay
Cosmetics for Sale.
Apparently, it uses both your phone, and your camera to do this. The
agent who is helping you would have a map which would be downloaded to the
place where you are. Apparently they hope to get things like even hotel
rooms and such mapped out as well, as the project grows mroe popular. I
haven't heard if this is still in beta or not. They didn't really demo it
at the convention obviously due to it being in beta. This was only
something that very very briefly was discussed. I'm just wonderring if
anyone knows what I'm talking about, and if either that or the Bard
project for I O S have yet launched.
Chris.
