Jed,

If you want push on yyour phone for email do the following.  When you go to 
settings, select mail, contacts and calendars.  Select add account.  Now select 
microsoft exchange. 

Now fill in your name, email address and your password for your gmail  account. 
 Then enter the following server name m.google.com.  

Leave the domain name blank.  Select next near the top of the screan and double 
tap.  The next screan will allow you to disable or inable things such as 
calendars and contacts and notes.  You can also select which folders you want 
pushed to your phone if you wish.  By default  the inbox is the only one that 
gets pushed to your phone.  HTH.
