I'm wondering if there are any firmware upgrades for that HD. I've had issues with WD drives in the past that were addressed by firmware upgrades to the drive itself. These upgrades can usually be found on the Western Digital site. Alternatively, as long as you can confirm that the external drive has been backed up properly, try this Terminal command: sudo rm -rf /Volumes/Drive_Name/.* This is a very scary command as you can accidentally delete the entire contents of the drive, if entered incorrectly, thus my caution about making sure that the drive was backed up. Regarding Terminal not reading the line that you just entered, you may need to interact one more level in oder to view those entries. HTH. Later... According to a post I found on the net, that may solve finder crashes when opening an external drive. I tried command g, go to folder in finder, but that command crashes finder as well, when I type in /volumes/macserver1. macserver1 is the volume label of the external drive. Any ideas? What can I do to let finder open this drive? CrashPlan is backing it up just fine, so it should be accessible to the os. It's just that finder has problems with it. Any advice?
