Hi, The Extreme has a more powerful processor in it so it can better handle the big demands for bandwidth. For normal household use though, this may not be a factor. The Extreme also has more ethernet ports for more wired connectivity. If you like streaming music from your computer to a stereo or home theatre, then this is more easily handled through the Express. The benefits of streaming music are only realized though if you can place the Express close to your stereo or Home Theatre.
