Hi,

The Camera Roll is where the master copy of your photo is kept, similar to the
Music Library in iTunes. Each album simply has a reference to the
original/master photo as in iTunes, songs within a playlist are simply
references to the master copy in the main Library. So, in fact, you are not
actually copying the photo to another album, you are just making an alias to
that photo in another location. This is why iPhones and Macs don't use up huge
amounts of space duplicating photos/music within your given Library. So,
essentially, you can remove a photo from a specific album without it affecting
anything else but when you remove the photo from the Camera Roll, you are
removing the actual photo from the device which will remove it from everywhere.

HTH.
