My guess is you have another app open but that app had no windows open,
so focus was on the menu bar. I have seen this happen when I have skype
running but the main window is closed.

Okay, I am replying to my own message. I figured out the answer to my
question. I am, however, going to leave it as a puzzle to see which one
of you really smart Mac users can figure it out.

Hi All,
This is nothing more than a curiosity question as all is working fine.
I take pride in always knowing why VoiceOver is saying what it is
saying on my Mac. Recently, however, when I quit Apple Mail on my
MacBook Pro, instead of saying "quitting Mail" like it use to,
VoiceOver now says "Menu Bar" I have no idea why this has changed as
everything is working perfectly normally. Anybody know why I am now
hearing "Menu Bar" when quitting mail?
