The nls player does mp3, just as do scores of other such commercial products universally. Maintaining position when shut off is ubiquitous in them.

I did not read the original request as limited to itunes but one of how access could be achieved wwhile retaining position..

The question, though, is if this can be done when playing the movies in iTunes? 
Not everyone is an NLS member, and you can't be at all if you're not in the 
United States.

They are mp3 format.  I download them, put them on a flash drive and listen on 
the nls player.  Position like any file is kept, as are navigation functions 
and bookmarks.
