This will be because the apps you're using are not compatible with the Twitter API 1.1. Older versions of the API were switched off yesterday. Twitterific for iOS has a compliant version, as does Tweetlist and of course the official Twitter app. The latest version of Night owl works with Twitter API 1.1 on the Mac.
