I have spent an unproductive time with time machine today. I wanted to go back and fetch my iTunes library file from before I upgraded to the latest version of that app. I struck out. When my sighted husband got home, he went in to the time machine, but all he's seeing is the desktop in various iterations from various dates. I know the file names and I know the path, but typing into the search box didn't seem to get anything done. What is the secret to making time maching fetch what I want and now show me the desktop? I thought it might have to do with what had focus on my Mac when I opened time machine, so I focused in finder on my itunes folver under the users/username/music path, but then when I opened TM, that didn't help.
