The Air is from early this year, so it is not the newest. It is the lowest-powered model, with 4gb ram and a 64-gb ssd. No, I doubt an OS would run well from a card, but you could easily dump all your media on the card and save the room for your operating system. Personally, I'd go with 8gb of ram, but that's just me.
