I did not mean to suggest that "all blind people are the same". As I said, I simply misread your original message, reading into it something that was not there, and I apologize for that. I definitely know where you are coming from when you say grouping people hampers individuality and that everyone uses devices differently.
Now, to give you another tip regarding buttons: what about a tactile screen protector? No, it does not have physical buttons, but it has dots. I have not used one, but my understanding is that there are two models, one with a few dots and one with a bunch. Using these dots as reference points lets you much more accurately dial, type and do other tasks, especially when you cannot hear the voice. So, for your dialing or texting examples, you can at least be more certain that the virtual buttons you are pushing are the right ones. Voice does work, but as someone else said, it does not work all the time and does not always get things right. If you do go with an iPhone, a Speed Dots tactile screen protector may help you a lot by providing physical reference points for the touch screen.
