Hello Christina, It isn't actually necessary to use VueScan with FineReader, but it makes scanning multiple pages much easier and quicker. You can scan multiple pages with ABBYY FineReader, but you have to perform several actions between pages whereas with VueScan, you can either set it to autorepeat or press Cmd-n for each scan, then Cmd-g to tell VueScan that you've scanned the final page, and it will close the file and open FineReader so that FR can perform the OCR.
