Hi UTorrent is a separate entity from Safari so whether Safari is open or closed is irrelevant. Make sure that you remove any old torrents that you have already downloaded as well as any that you think are there without your knowledge. Also, check if UTorrent is set to open automatically upon login. You can check by pressing VO-shift-m while on the UTorrent Dock item, going under Options and confirming that the "Open at Login" is not checked.
