1. This has probably got something to do with your email provider (Yahoo) and/or the fact that you're using POP3. It can also be with the type of account you've set up. I'd strongly recommend you look into using IMAP rather than POP.
If you want to import your contacts from Yahoo you might be able to export them from the Yahoo website and then import them into the Contacts app on your MacBook. I'd recommend using your iCloud account for reminders and calendars and the like. 2.
