Hello,

Yes, it does have a default rate. Which can be over ridden by using the -r 
flag. However, I get the following error, when using the most basic form:

say hello

MTBEAudioUnitSoundOutput::PropagateProperty Error -10851
MTBEAudioUnitSoundOutput::PropagateProperty Error -10851

Hence why I asked if the audio architecture could handle using VO and say at 
the same time.
