Hi ricardo and tim,
As usual, coming from the windows environment I'm always assuming the most
complicated solutions. Migration Assistant will do fine for me - gotta love
a Mac.

Hi,
if you have a timemachine backup, you can also use that.

Hi,
As long as you have the Thunderbolt to Ethernet connector, you could
simply use Migration Assistant to migrate everything exactly as is from
your older Mac to the newer one. The Set-Up Assistant will guide you
through this when you start up your new MBA.

No, target node does not work with USB, it might work with lightning
though. Your next best alternative is too shutdown wireless on both
systems and connect with a standard ethernet cable. Apple computers do
not require a hub for wired connections.

Wonder if you can do the old 'target mode' thing on the MB Air (hold
down T during startup) to make it into the world's most expensive
external hard drive. Then connect it via USB to your old Mac and it
should show up as a drive. Then you could use SuperDuper to clone your
current drive onto the new machine. Did this once between MacBook Pros
using Firewire and Carbon Copy Cloner so maybe the same thing can be
done with USB?

I've never used Time Machine before, I'll look into it.

Why not use time machine for this? I was able to install my iMac

Is there any reason why I couldn't transfer the bootable image of my
late 2011 iMac onto my new, soon to arrive MBA? are these boot images
(created with SuperDuper) hardware specific? I have the iMac setup
the way I want it and, if possible, it would save alot of time and
trouble setting up the MBA to just image the iMac onto the MBA
?
