I'm not sure, but I have a feeling you've synced your contacts with your Gmail account and iOS is saying that iCloud will take over contact backups. I wouldn't worry about it, but you can google it to be sure.
As to iCloud saving, you can stay signed in and get rid of that. Google "mac prompts to save to iCloud" to find the exact command. The process is basically just writing a default setting; it uses Terminal, but it is easy and you'll only need to do it once. I'd give you the exact command, but I don't remember which preference you will have to change.
