Guys I was reading an article about how to lighten data usage on the iPhone and it recommended a text only browser called, prosaically, Text Browser. It's free.
Anyway, you have probably all been using it for years, but it seems to be quite VO friendly and cuts out a lot of the stuff that we don't want or need to have on our screens. On the page I tested it on, it downloaded almost instantly, certainly a lot more quickly than it does on Safari, so that's an indication of how much less data it's downloading.
