In March I offered to help Cara with managing the join requests for the
list as she was having a hard time keeping up. I'm usually on email
every day (although not so much on weekends) so most approvals happen in
a day. As far as I know there are no pending requests. I am starting to
weed out subscribers whose emails are bouncing. Please let folks know to
try again if they had trouble in the past. I've also manually added
folks for which the regular process didn't seem to be working. One thing
I do check is that the subscription request mention something that
sounds like a human who would care about this list's topic (macs,
voiceover, iOS etc). This is just to prevent spam bots from joining. So
blank requests or ones with random text don't get approved.

so yes, that's right. As to why it takes so long, I have no clue. I joined
twice, once in 2010 and again in early 2012 as I recall, and both times the
process took a few weeks. I have heard stories of it taking six months for some
people, though.
