First of all, you should probably stop calling it a virtual mac, it's 
confusing. its a virtual machine running windows on  mac hardware. Second, you 
don't really need to turn off voiceover unless you really need the VO key 
combination in windows, something that happens rarely. And, no, you certainly 
don't need to shut down the VM when not in use. I keep mine running constantly 
- that's part of the convenience factor between fusion and bootcamp, you just 
command tab over to windows and do your business, then command tab back to the 
Mac side.

I have fusion running windows7 on a MacBookAir and as a result, I can use it 
away from home, although I don't think that's what you meant - be a little more 
specific and we can be more helpful.
