Hi Mary, command left bracket has always been the actual documented command to go back in Safari. If your still running Mountain lion, look in the history menu and you will see that command left bracket is indeed the default command. Backspace and command left arrow I think were just convenient bi products of something else. I’m not sure what. I haven’t really hunted for what binds those other keystrokes to the action.
