Don’t panic. Your sounds are being effected by audio ducking. What this means is that when voice over speaks, the regular Mac sounds get ducked under. This is the same as with the Iphone. Should you wish to turn this off, you need only go to the Voice Over utilities under the soudns tab. There, you can uncheck audio ducking.
