That doesn't happen to me either. My sounds have always been and still are working when I hijack safari. With Mavericks, you definitely have to use instant on to do hijacking of safari and at this point this requires the beta; you probably already know this since one gets a message about this at some point when opening audio hijack pro if the beta isn't being used.
