You can also install the Refit boot manager. I like it because it not only prompts you to choose a disk when you boot (defaulting to your default after a certain time if you do nothing), it gives you first-letter selection. When I boot, I can hit m for mac, w for windows, and, I think, r for recovery. No need to arrow to one or the other or hold down any keys.
