Oh, my, I had a horrible time with VI, because I didn’t RTFM, of course, and I couldn’t get out of it. More and more control characters kept appearing from my attempts to press escape and control-q, and then when I found that exiting was an obscure command like ZZ or something really disjointed, I complained to a programmer friend of mine. He said it was all completely logical. Now I know how some people feel when they learn Braille! :) anyway, Emacs is only slightly less intuitive to my way of thinking, but I took the time to RTFM before I used it. :)
