To add to this, switching accounts would be pretty easy, from a message storage 
perspective at least. You need only create the folders you want on your new 
account, then move or copy all your messages over right from within the Mail 
app on the Mac or iOS device.

Did you try a clean install yet? Most of my problems disappeared after I did 
that, and I'm only noticing sluggishness now that I have Xcode, Mail, Pages, 
Text Edit, Safari (with 6 tabs), YoruFukurou, and VMWare (inactive) open all at 
the same time. If I close things and only have some apps open, I get even 
better performance.
