As long as you don't have version 10 of GarageBand you can use it to record. Personally I recommend audio hijack Pro. It has lots of different things that it can do and it's really easy to use. You can download it for free and record up to 10 minutes but you have to buy a license for anything longer than that. It's about $32 if I remember correctly.
