Hi,

I think that this has something to do with another screen gaining VO focus.  
The Login screen is usually totally accessible if you attempt to use it right 
away.  If your Mac has gone to sleep or if a Screensaver has activated, then 
you need to either click a mouse or trackpad to bring focus to the Login 
screen.  I've mostly noticed this on Desktop machines, MacBook Pros and MacBook 
Airs seem to not have the same issue.
