I've just reproduced your problem, and it only happens when swapping to
wds mode. I think it is significantly more closely related to tickets
#94, #183 and #237. At the bottom of the stack trace should be the
message "unable to load wlan_scan_wds" if I am right, which means that it
hasn't loaded the scanner module and thus can't start a scan.
