#475: No ath0 interface on Debian with madwifi-old ----------------------------------+----------------------------------------- Reporter: [email protected] | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Component: madwifi: other | Version: Keywords: ath0 linksys WPC55AG | Patch_attached: 0 ----------------------------------+----------------------------------------- * OS: Debian testing/unstable. * Kernel: 2.6.15-1-686 (Debian pkg linux-image-2.6.15-1-686) * HW: Thinkpad T21 * PCMCIA: Linksys WPC55AG
Madwifi packages: * madwifi-dev 0.svn20060207-3 * madwifi-modules-2.6.15-1-686 * madwifi-source 0.svn20060207-3 * madwifi-tools 0.svn20060207-1 After following instructions on http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/Distro/Debian it isn't possible to bring up the ath0 interface: {{{ # ifconfig ath0 up ath0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device }}} lsmod | grep ath shows: {{{ ath_pci 69852 0 ath_rate_sample 13928 1 ath_pci wlan 122972 2 ath_pci,ath_rate_sample ath_hal 147985 2 ath_pci,ath_rate_sample }}} dmesg output following 'modprobe ath_pci': {{{ ath_hal: 0.9.14.9 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, AR5111, RF5112, RF2413) wlan: 0.8.6.0 (EXPERIMENTAL) ath_rate_sample: 1.2 ath_pci: 0.9.6.0 (EXPERIMENTAL) }}} Note that there is no 'ath0 ...' output as per documentation. lspci reports the PCMCIA card as: {{{ 0000:020:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Ing.: Unknown device 001b (rev 01) }}} I don't find any debug/troubleshooting sections appropriate to this message. There's a similar situation for the 'ng' drivers, but these aren't in use here. There are also a number of similar issues reported and searchable through Google (Web/Groups) with no clear resolution. -- Ticket URL: <http://madwifi.org/ticket/475> MadWifi <http://madwifi.org/> Multiband Atheros Driver for Wireless Fidelity
