Comment:

I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu Dapper freshly installed from the flight
6 cd. I did a total reinstall since the flight 5 disc, and still
experience this same problem. I believe it's due to a problem with the
drivers and atheros based cards. It seems madwifi can't handle iwscan
without losing the current connection on these cards.
I've reported this as a bug with the ubuntu team, and there is more info
on the hardware I'm using, as well as the packaged versions of madwifi in
 the restricted-modules package.

Also... I remember having connectivity issues in Ubuntu 5.10 as well...
using the same setup as before... same exact behavior.
