NetworkManager _always_ uses wpa_supplicant for madwifi interfaces, even
 if
the connection is WEP encrypted or not encrypted at all.

The wpa_supplicant delivered by Redhat uses the wrong madwifi header
 files.
You'll need to get the src rpm, replace the header files and rebuild the
 rpm
 yourself. This is how:

 - install the madwifi-devel RPM from livna
 - make a tarball named "madwifi-headers.tar.bz2" from inside
 the /usr/include/madwifi directory
 - download and install the src rpm of Redhat's wpa_supplicant-0.4.8-5
 - replace the madwifi-headers.tar.bz2 file with the tarball you made
 yourself
(I believe you should put it under /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES, but my
 rpmbuild
setup is customised, so I'm not sure)
 - run "rpmbuild -bb /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/wpa_supplicant.spec"
 - install the wpa_supplicant-0.4.8-5.i386.rpm in the
 /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386
 directory using "rpm -Uvh --force"

 Good luck!
