An addition to my first comment:
Another goal should be: taking care that madwifi.org stays an
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_and_Open_Source_Software FOSS] project
and the driver stays as open source as possible (the latter being an
accomodation to the fact that we still depend on the closed-source HAL).
