I removed the old stuff before doing the "make" as per the instructions on
the newb page. When I ran "make" and "make install" I wasn't prompted to
remove any files.

ath_hal.ko is found in
/lib/modules/2.6.12-10-386/net/
/lib/modules/2.6.12-10-386/volatile/
The only other occurance of ath_hal.ko that I found is in the /usr/src
/madwifi-ng directory which is where I had put the madwifi drivers.
