This patch is fine to commit. I just isolated my problem to debian's new
udev persistent_net_generator script, which was instantly renaming the
interface to ath0 (and this behaviour is highly annoying, and I'm not
certain it is the fault of anything != madwifi-ng, but that is something
to be discussed at another time ;-)
