Your original capture steps were nearly correct, but you need to omit the
"iwpriv ath0 mode 2" command:

modprobe ath_pci autocreate=none
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor
iwconfig ath0 mode monitor channel 6
ifconfig ath0 up
}}}
If you want to do the capture from the command line, you can use

tcpdump -i ath0 -s 0 -w ath0.cap
}}}
