 I have this problem with both th portage version and the latest svn
 versions. trued mutiple uninstalls/reinstalls.

 Open to suggestions, i know madwifi works with my atheros chip on this
 laptop since it works fine with the madwifi driver contained on the dapper
 ubuntu live cd which is how I've been forced to use wireless as of late
 instead of on the gentoo install on teh hard drive... :-( help!
