let me know what other troublshooting I should do.

Check if ''lspci'' reports any Atheros device. If not, make sure that the
cradle is correctly inserted and working properly. Given that the above
quoted lines really are all that you get from MadWifi, it looks like your
system simply sees no Atheros card at all, and the logical result is that
MadWifi simply does nothing more than load.
