Comment (by cognition):

 I have a Aspire 5040, it contains an Atheros wifi card. I've tried many
 opptions to get it to work on fc5 with little progress. Here's some out
 put, hope it helps in the solving the problem:

 {{{
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] sysconfig]# iwconfig
 lo        no wireless extensions.

 eth0      no wireless extensions.

 sit0      no wireless extensions.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] sysconfig]# wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0
 wlanconfig: ioctl: No such device

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] sysconfig]# kismet
 Server options:  none
 Client options:  none
 Starting server...
 Will drop privs to kismet (101) gid 102
 No specific sources given to be enabled, all will be enabled.
 Enabling channel hopping.
 Enabling channel splitting.
 Source 0 (madwifi_b): Enabling monitor mode for madwifi_b source interface
 wifi0 channel 6...
 WARNING: wifi0 appears to not accept the Madwifi-NG controls. Will attempt
 to configure it as a standard Madwifi-old interface. If you are using
 madwifi-ng, be sure to set the source interface to the wifiX control
 interface, NOT athX
 FATAL: GetIFFlags: interface wifi0: No such device
 Waiting for server to start before starting UI...

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] sysconfig]# modprobe ath_pci [that worked, at least the
 drive is loaded in the kernel]
 }}}

 hope the above helps,
 cognition
