I got a couple new cards today. These are genuine Atheros XB62 reference
design cards. The older card that has the problem is an XB62 knockoff by
PCDGlobal. Looking at the outside these cards are identical -- they seem
to have the same foil and silkscreen. However, the Atheros-built cards
work (at home) with the unhacked MadWiFi drivers -- they do not stuff the
extra four bytes between the 802.11 and LLC headers.
I am now mystified. I will see if there is some way to identify the chip
and/or firmware in these cards.
