#1668: cannot enter monitor mode ---------------------------------------------------------------------+------ Reporter: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | Type: defect Status: new | Priority: blocker Component: madwifi: driver | Version: v0.9.3.3 Keywords: monitor mode fails, wireless extensions, wireless tools | Patch_attached: 0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------+------ I've installed the latest madwifi drivers for my onboard wireless card (soon to be replaced with a way more powerful but also atheros based card). However basic commands that work fine on my pcmcia ralink card do not work on my onboard atheros card.
iwconfig ath0 mode monitor results in: Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06): SET failed on device ath0 ; Invalid argument This works fine on any other card. Is this a madwifi problem? I also read here that I cannot set the card into monitor mode without it first being set to 802.11b. Is this true? Extra info: iwconfig -v yields (shortened as I am forced to type it): iwconfig Wireless tools version 28. compatible with Wireless Extensions v11 to v20 Kernel currently compiled with Wireless Extension v22 ath0 Recommend Wireless Extension v18 or later, currently compiled with Wireless Extension v22. Looking at the wireless tools download page on some random site I found that I already have the latest WT but that only works with WE 11 to 20. Meanwhile my kernel and ath0 interface are compiled with WE 22 somehow.
