 Dear maintainers,

withe the latest kernel version in Debian/sid (2.6.24) it is the first
 time, ath5k is delivered.
Well, sadly I have to tell you, it is not working properly.

 Description:

The wlan-device can not get an IP with dhcp.

 Hardware:
 lspci is telling:
04:05.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR2413 802.11bg
 NIC (rev 01)

 (

 dmesg is telling:

 wifi0: 11b rates: 1Mbps 2Mbps 5.5Mbps 11Mbps
 wifi0: 11g rates: 1Mbps 2Mbps 5.5Mbps 11Mbps 6Mbps 9Mbps 12Mbps 18Mbps
 24Mbps 36Mbps 48Mbps 54Mbps
wifi0: H/W encryption support: WEP AES AES_CCM TKIP
 wifi0: mac 7.8 phy 4.5 radio 5.6
wifi0: Use hw queue 1 for WME_AC_BE traffic
wifi0: Use hw queue 0 for WME_AC_BK traffic
wifi0: Use hw queue 2 for WME_AC_VI traffic
wifi0: Use hw queue 3 for WME_AC_VO traffic
wifi0: Use hw queue 8 for CAB traffic
wifi0: Use hw queue 9 for beacons
 wifi0: Atheros 5212: mem=0xc3000000, irq=18

Ok, this is the output using madwifi-driver.

What I found out about ath5k with kernel 2.6.24:

 - The driver is loaded

 - the device is called "ath0" (the name "wlan0" is changed to ath0 by
udev, but the name does not matter. I changed it to wlan0, with no
 difference)

 - all iwconfig commands are working well.

 - kernel-drivers ieee80211 and/or ieee80211softmac can both be loaded
(manually) , but also no difference.

 - dhcp in the commandline is NOT working ! Reason seem to be the wrong
device. Please take a look at my stdout.

 ---------- snap --------

You see, there is no device, but ifconfig is telling me, there is one.

As it is not possible, to build madwifi-drivers against the latest kernel
(there should be another bugreport about this), and I still need to run
 the older kernel.

So, I am asking for help.

Please feel free, to ask for any information you need.

 Best regards

 Hans-J. Ullrich
