I have a Compaq Presario f700. (specifically f756ca)
I replaced my amd64 Kubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) with the 32 bit version
and
installed the attached "readily-patched snapshot" and it works.
I have successfully, connected and reconnected using 128bit WEP to a non-
broadcast ESSID.
