I was also getting the "Makefile.inc:161: *** TARGET x86_64-elf is
invalid, valid targets are: ." error when building/installing using the
instructions posted by anonymous on 05/31/08 07:59:17.
They just forgot to mention that when extracting ath_hal-20080528.tgz, you
need to place everything in the extracted hal/ath_hal-20080528 directory
in hal/, so here's a simple fix for the original instructions:
...snipped install instructions...
$ cd hal
$ tar xvf ../../ath_hal-20080528.tgz
$ mv ath_hal-20080528/* . #I Just added..
$ rmdir ath_hal-20080528 #..these two steps.
$ cd ..
...snipped install instructions...
