We tried a few times to include/submit the patch, a few tickets were
created (I don't remember the numbers), but the conclusion was always that
it was a hack and not something clean and that's the reason it was never
included.

this was fixed a few revisions ago (in aircrack-ng), just use latest svn
version or 1.0 rc1. The reason why it wasn't working was due to a change
of the output of wlanconfig (when creating a VAP).
