Comment (by Diabliyo):

I have the same problem, look:

shell# lspci 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc.
 AR5006EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)

 shell# uname -r
 2.6.24-gentoo-r8

 shell# dmesg|grep ath_
 ath_hal: 0.9.18.0 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413)
ath_pci: no version for "ieee80211_encap" found: kernel tainted.
 ath_pci: 0.9.4
 ath_pci: driver unloaded
 ath_pci: 0.9.4

I have "ath_pci" module loaded, but i cant use my wireless, and that isnt
available in the "iwconfig", say "no wireless"...

 This is my notebook:

 - Procesor: AMD Turion64 X2 Dual-Core
 - Chipset (lspci): AR5006EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev
 01)
 - Type: Noteboook
 - Brand: Averatec
 - GNU/Linux: Gentoo 2008.0

I try with the source code drivers and the drivers from the portage !!!..
And is the same problem :( !!
