Comment:

 Regarding the v2 patch: what is "3" and what is "1"?  Where does it come
 from?  What is the value before "1"?  Is it random?  What does HAL do?  Do
 we see other (e.g. Windows) drivers do it?  We can find out with
 mmiotrace, which is in Linux 2.6.27-rc1 already.

 Also, why do we need to set it in 3 places?  Can we group similar
 initializations into one function?
